Welcome back to another edition of Eye of the Storm as I continue to lay out the Contemporary metagame in anticipation of the upcoming Darkmoon Faire St. Louis and the current Realm Championship Qualifier season. This week, I wanted to cover another archetype represented at the DMF Jacksonville iTournament and one that is near and dear to my heart: Mage control. By most players it was assumed that Mage was the class that benefited the most from the bannings of Viewless Wings, Leader of the Pack, and Winter Veil Disguise Kit since they were totally untouched and already a major player in the metagame. Matt Walsh and I played this deck to top 8 finishes on the day, though our lists differed slightly, proving that this deck still had room to grow. While we both ran the traditional Zumix of Kezan hero, allies, and generally a lot of the same abilities, Matt chose to run the traditional Ice Barrier variant, while I ran my favorite Arcane Potency based version. Each has their own merits, but that being said I am not sure each can survive in this new Betrayal of the Guardian based environment.

“Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.”
